Frontispiece, linen-backed map and approx.108 plates (portraits, views, battle scenes etc. mostly with captioned guards). 4to (11 3/2 x 9 1/4 inches, weight 2.5 kg), pages: viii:(1):74:(1). Contemporary half green morocco, spine ruled and gilt lettered direct, top edge gilt, others uncut, bound-in silk bookmark. With, inserted at front, 2 proof leaves signed by Mawdesley. A little rubbed, some foxing to edge of text block, overall very good.

A splendidly produced genealogical work. From "The Apology" dated Fulford Cottage, Nov. 1907: "The book is limited to six copies, in order that it may not be supplied to anyone outside the immediate family, and it is earnestly hoped that it may never be allowed to pass into other hands". Chapters are devoted to: the Parent Stem; Branch; Thomas Mawdesley of Newbrough; Mawdesley & Heskin Halls; the Mawdesley Arms; John Mawdesley's services in the Navy; His Ships; the Leylands; The Robertses; Genealogy showing the Maternal Progenitors; and On the Dundee Broadside.
